First batch of amnesty grantees to return to PH on Aug. 15

The first batch of overseas Filipino workers who were granted amnesty by the UAE government is set to return to the Philippines tomorrow, August 15.

A total of 98 Filipinos, including six minors, will be returning home via Philippine Airlines flight PR 659 at DXB Terminal 1 at 7:35 PM on Wednesday, reported Khaleej Times.

They will be arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 the following day at around 8:15 AM Manila time.

According to the report, Philippine Consul-General Paul Raymund Cortes said that deputy consul-general Renato Duenas, Jr. will be accompanying the returning Filipinos from Dubai to Manila.

Cortes further noted that the Consulate spent approximately Dh215,600 (around P3.1 million) to shoulder the air fare and exit permits of the first batch of returning Filipinos.

Aside from the shouldering the air fare and exit permits, the Consulate will also be providing each of the returning Filipinos, excluding the minors, with a monetary “humble welfare assistance” worth $100 or P5,300.

The Department of Labor and Employment earlier said that over 100,000 overstaying overseas Filipino workers in the UAE are expected to benefit from the three-month-long amnesty scheme of the Gulf country.
