Filipino airport staff returns bag stashed with ₱1.5 million

A police officer at the Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPIA) in Palawan on Tuesday, July 31, returned a bag stashed with ₱1.5 million to its owner.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolonio said that the police officer identified as PO3 Mark Briones, a K9 handler of the PNP-Aviation Security Unit, found the blue bag at the airport’s arrival area.

Briones then brought the bag for security checking and found out that the bag contained a brown envelope with the cash inside it.

The ID of the owner was also found inside the bag which enabled the authorities to locate its owner, who was still at the airport at that time.

Following a verification process, the authorities returned the bag and cash to its owner Danilo Dequito who traveled to Puerto Princesa City from Manila.

“The event displays how the culture of honesty still prevails in the CAAP, the aviation police and Philippine airports,” the CAAP said.

Apolonio said Briones will be recognized for his honesty.
