Duterte set to deliver 3rd SONA today

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to deliver his third State of the Nation Address before Congress today. The President will have a no-frills attire and will wear simple piña woven barong.

His third SONA will be filmed under the direction of Bb. Joyce Bernal.

Unlike the past SONAs, however, Duterte will not meet with protesters after his speech. Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque also confirmed that the President is of good health since he had a routine check-up in Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan a day before the speech.

The speech is expected to focus on what he can do for the next 12 months as the father of the nation and his constant battle against drugs and corruption.

The achievements of his administration have already been reported in the pre-SONA forum held in the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay.

The President’s critics will rally along Commonwealth Avenue while his supporters will assemble at Batasan Road. The police have already deployed 7,000 men and set the barricades farther than last year from the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

Moreover, the Basic Bangsamoro Law is set to be signed into law during the SONA. The bicameral conference committee report will be ratified in the House’s regular session today.
