Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio left a short message for her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, in celebration of Father’s Day.
As seen in a video posted on the Facebook page of City Government of Davao, the younger Duterte thanked her father for his “rigid ways” of raising her because it helped her become the person she is today.
Sara emphasized that President Duterte opened her mind to the importance of education.
“Sa mga words niya, I always felt na hindi ako tao kung hindi ako lawyer, or doctor, or if I do not work for our country,” she said.
“And I thank him for that rigidity and sa importance ng education because I would not be who I am now kung hindi dahil sa kaniya at sa mama ko,” she continued.
Sara ended her short message by expressing gratitude to her father and greeting him as well.
“Thank you for being who you are because I am who I am and where I am now and I have all these values because of you and my mommy,” she said.
Sara Duterte is the second child of President Duterte with his first wife Elizabeth Zimmerman. The former couple have two other sons, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Sebastian Duterte.
President Duterte also has another daughter with his common law partner Honeylet Avanceña.
