An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was beaten to death by two men on May 26 in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) identified the OFW as 36-year-old Henry John Acorda who works as an employee in a multinational company in the European country.
The OFW reportedly defended two women who were being harassed by the suspects.
The Philippine Embassy in Slovakia reported that the Filipino has succumbed from his injuries at the University Hospital Ruźjnov on Thursday, May 31.
DFA extended condolences to the family and relatives of the victim and promised that justice for his death will be served.
“We give our assurance to Henry’s family that we will do everything to make sure that those responsible for his death are brought to justice,” said Philippine Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano in a statement.
DFA added that they are processing the repatriation of Acorda’s remains back to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the foreign affairs department also announced that a 28-year-old man has been apprehended and charged with manslaughter in relation with Acorda’s death.
