The Dubai Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced an Asian cleaner (nationality withheld) for stealing $3,200 (Dhs11,754) from a hotel guest.
Investigators and the management of the hotel were clueless about the theft, but fingerprint analysis came into play in a big way.
A Dubai Police sergeant handling the case zeroed in on the suspect after the fingerprints on the stolen envelope matched with the suspect’s.
The defendant later admitted that he entered the victim’s room to clean. That’s when he took the envelope from the victim’s bag and stole the money.
He said he had sent it to his family in his home country.
