Illegal transport to pay Dh3000, incur 24 black points

Abu Dhabi Police on Wednesday, April 11, reminded the public motorists running illegal transport services will be fined Dh3,000.

Brigadier Ibrahim Sultan Al Zaabi, the director of the transport security department, in the criminal security sector said drivers of privately-owned vehicles used as taxis will be fined Dh3,000 and incur 24 traffic points. The vehicle will also be confiscated for 30 days.

Authorities said more than 650 privately owned vehicles operate ‘illegal transportation’ in Abu Dhabi for the past three months.

They also warned the public of the possible dangers of riding an ‘illegally run’ transport vehicle. He called on the public to use legal modes of transportation that will ensure safety and security during the ride. These modes are also protected by the law.

Abu Dhabi Police also noted that illegal transport of passengers has a negative impact on society. These modes of transportation “do not have safety conditions, adequate means of safety for passenger transport, and the driver is unknown.”

The reminder is a part of Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts to utilize social media to continue raising awareness on traffic rules and regulations after UAE’s Federal traffic law was amended in July last year.
