Remains of two OFWs killed in Saudi arrive in PH

The bodies of the two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died in a hit and run incident in Saudi Arabia has arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday, April 3.

The kin of the OFWs, Mark Lancelot Agdan and Joel Banhaon, were in grief after seeing the crates containing the bodies of their relatives.

“Masakit po kasi ito na po ‘yung huling sundo namin, patay na po siya,” a crying Ruperta Banhaon, Bahaon’s mother, said.

Leonora, Banhaon’s wife, did not expect that the conversation between her and Joel the night before the accident would be the last time she would ever hear her husband’s voice.

“Sabi ko po sa kanya kasi kinabukasan na lang po kami mag-usap at may pasok nga po ‘yung mga anak ko. Pagkagising ko po, tinawagan ko po agad siya, ‘di na po sumagot. Tumawag po ‘yung kasamahan sa trabaho na naaksidente nga daw po sila,” she said.

The two met their untimely death on March 4.

The OFWs were biking when they were hit by a vehicle driven by a 15-year-old Pakistani. The suspect was immediately detained in Jubail.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) deputy administrator Arnel Ignacio promised to extend help to the families of the victims.

“Ang importante ngayon… kasi sila lumapit na sila sa OWWA few weeks ago and unahin natin kung paano natin maiibsan ‘yung hirap nila ngayon,” Ignacio said.
