2 Asian workers buried alive under sand in UAE

Two Asian workers, aged 25 and 28, who were digging a well in Ras Al Khaimah died after being buried alive under a mound of sand.

Initial investigation said that a large pile of sand collapsed on them.

Captain Mohamad Ali Al Nuaimi, acting director of Al Ma’moura police station said that members of the RAK Police and Civil Defense were able to pull the bodies of the workers.

After hearing about the accident from police, a search and rescue team rushed to the digging site and took out the bodies from the 20-meter deep well.

Al Nuaimi added that investigations are now ongoing to unearth the reason behind the accident.

For his part, Brigadier Ghanem Ahmed Ghanem, the director-general of the RAK Police’s central operations team, reminded people to get permission from authorized entities before partaking on similar construction operations.

He also reminded the public that safety precautions should always be a must for all workers.
