UAE suspends good conduct certificate until further notice

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) has issued a circular on the suspension of the mandatory good conduct certificate needed to process employment visas from April 1, reported The National.

“We would like to inform you of the decision of the Cabinet No. 20 (4) of 2018 of Session No. 4, which temporarily suspends the Cabinet decision (Ministerial Resolution) No. 1/8 of 2017 of Session No. 8 regarding the addition of the requirement to obtain a certificate of good conduct for expatriate workers who wish to obtain a work visa in the country, starting from 1 April 2018,” read the English translation of the Arabic circular.

In response to a query on Twitter, the Ministry said that submission of the said certificates is suspended “until further notice”.

The Ministry said they are temporarily suspending the submission of these certificates because many embassies and citizens have reportedly struggled to understand the need for these certificates when processing visa applications.

UAE authorities have started to process visa applications without good conduct papers since last week.

The requirement to present a good conduct certificate was imposed on February 4. This meant that workers planning to be hired in the UAE need to present a police document from their home country as proof that they have no previous criminal records for the past 5 years.

The National Bureau of Investigation certificate is the counterpart of the good conduct certificate for OFWs.
