Body of starved OFW in Kuwait arrives in PH

The remains of the overseas Filipina worker (OFW) who was reportedly starved by her employers in Kuwait has arrived in the Philippines Thursday, March 8.

The body of Jeanette Plegaria-Opido arrived at the Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) past 9:00 in the morning through Gulf Air Flight GF 154.

A video of Opido pleading for help to return to the Philippines went viral on social media, claiming that her employers starved her. This allegedly caused her weakness, and suffer from acute failure of blood circulation and other complications.

Not long after, Opido died at a hospital in Kuwait on February 23.

Director of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Ariel Valenciano said that financial assistance of P120,000 and educational assistance will be extended to the family.  

Meanwhile, Opido’s recruiters iRekrut is still arranging the insurance that the OFW’s family will receive. They also promised to shoulder expenses for the OFW’s funeral service.

The Filipina worker left behind her second husband Artur and eight children: Mariel (24), Gladys (23), Dante John (16), Arcel John (13), Arvin Jim (11), Aaron James (9), Aris Joel (7), and Arjay Mark (3).
