Customs officials intercept P2.4-M cash from 5 Dubai-bound passengers at NAIA 3

A total of P2.4 million in cash was seized from five Dubai-bound passengers Saturday night, February 24, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 for violating cross border transfer of local and foreign currency.

They will be charged at the Pasay Prosecutors Office for violation of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Circular No. 922, and Section 101 of the Customs Modernization Tariff Act, reported ABS CBN News.

The passengers who introduced themselves as businessmen traveling to Dubai for vacation initially eluded the security x-ray at the entrance of Terminal 3, but they were barred at the final X-RAY screening after the authorities discovered their luggage was stashed with the unpermitted amount of money.

Anthony Relucio, shift supervisor of the Bureau of Customs at the airport, said that an amount of P50,000 each was returned to the five suspects because it is the only amount allowed for a departing tourist.

He added that the remaining amount will be confiscated by Customs and eventually undergo seizure proceedings.

They were also barred from boarding their flight to Dubai.
