Another OFW dies of illness due to alleged abuse in Kuwait

Another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Kuwait died last week and her family is seeking justice for her death.

Josie Lloren, a domestic helper from Kuwait, returned to the Philippines last January 26, gravely ill which urged her family to rush her to a hospital in Caloocan.

Unfortunately, Lloren’s reunion with her family was short-lived because, just after two weeks, she passed away.

According to her death certificate, cardio-respiratory arrest secondary to cerebrovascular disease was the cause of Lloren’s death.

But Lloren’s older brother, Joel Perez, Sr., alleged that she suffered abuse in the hands of her employers, had something to do with her illness that eventually led to her death.

Perez said that when his sister was still in Kuwait, she complained about her female employer beating her up because the latter accused Lloren of having an affair with her husband.

He said that Lloren told him about the alleged abuse in November 2017. Perez also said that it was their last conversation before the OFW’s return two months later.

“Kasi ‘yong pag-uwi niya, hindi namin alam talaga kung ano ‘yong nangyari doon sa Kuwait. Natanggap naman na namatay siya; ang aming hindi matanggap na hindi namin alam kung ano’ng dahilan,” Perez said.

“Mensahe ko na lang sa ating mahal na Presidente Rodrigo Duterte na sana mabigyan ng hustisya ang aming kapatid,” he added.

Lloren went to Kuwait in 2015 to support the financial needs of her three children.
