Bello: PH to sign bilateral deal with China on OFW deployment

by | TOP STORIES

The Philippine government, according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, will sign an agreement with China to open its labor market for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

This bilateral deal will be part of the government’s contingency plan for OFWs who will be repatriated from Kuwait following the total deployment ban on the said Gulf country which will take effect on Monday, February 12.

“Maglagda kami ng bilateral agreement with China kung saan ay magpapadala rin tayo ng ating mga OFW,” Bello said in a radio interview.

However, Bello no longer mentioned further details about the signing of the bilateral deal.

President Rodrigo Duterte said in a previous speech that he will seek help from China to open its doors to Filipinos migrant workers if abuse against OFWs in Kuwait continues.

China is in need of English teachers, as well as musicians, nurses, cooks, household service workers, and caregiver.

“There is a big demand for English teachers in China, kasi gusto yata ng mga Chinese na matutong mag-Ingles ‘yung mga anak nila,” Bello said referring to the big demand of English teachers.

“The salary offer is up to P60,000,” he added.

On Friday, the President Duterte asked Filipinos in Kuwait to come home after a Filipina’s body was found inside a freezer in Salmiya in Kuwait City.
