Authorities warn public against ‘advanced fee’ scam in Dubai

The Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) warned the public to watch out for a new scam targeting those who are interested in financial services.

DFSA issued an alert regarding the circulating ‘advanced fee scam.’

The fraudsters offer consumers access to different services including stock trading portfolio, financing, E-marketing in Dubai, debt insurance, networking with 2,430 companies worldwide, and credit cards.

The scammers require consumers to pay around Dh17,000 processing fee to an agent based in Dubai, London or Mexico, and to complete a registration form and attach identification documents.

The DFSA was able to get a hold of a fake document from the fraudsters bearing the agency’s logo (shown in the photo above).

The agency reminded the public that they do not provide consumers with such access to financial services.

They also advised residents not to respond to any communication regarding the scam, and to never send money to any party involved in the scam.
