OFW ban in Kuwait remains after labor attaché submits ‘half-baked’ report

The temporary ban on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Kuwait remains in effect after the Philippines’ labor attaché failed to submit an independent report that was asked by the government.

According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, he requested the country’s labor attaché to come up with his own findings that will explain the actual cause of death of the seven OFWs who died in Kuwait, reported The Manila Times.

However, the designated person submitted a report that came from the labor foreign office and from the Ministry of Interior of Kuwait, considering it as a “half-baked” report.

“What he failed to do was to mention in his report, which report we should follow. I requested our labor attaché to come up with his own findings, not the findings of two separate agencies,” Bello stated.

The report that will be submitted by the labor attaché would serve as a basis if the temporary ban on OFWs in Kuwait should be lifted, or a total ban would be declared.

Bello added that the labor attaché is expected to submit a report of his own findings anytime this week.

“Hopefully he should come out [with the report]anytime today so that anytime this week we can come up with a decision,” he added.
