Residents’ safety perception in Sharjah rises to 97%

From 92% in 2016, the perception of safety among residents in Sharjah rose to 97% in 2017 according to authorities.

Major General Saif Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said that the rate of serious crimes decreased by 45 percent to 837 in 2017 from 1,511 in 2016.

Authorities added that the reported 12,554 cases last year has been solved, and criminals have already been placed behind bars.  

As regard fatalities caused by road accidents and general traffic accidents, the figures saw a drop of 20 percent and 15 percent respectively last year.

The Sharjah police also emphasized that the response time to emergency cases also went down to 9.2 minutes in 2017 from 10.3 minutes in 2016 making Sharjah residents more confident and happy with the security in the emirate.

Despite the positive results, Sharjah officials reiterated that they are aiming for higher positive achievements this year.

“We hope to deliver higher positive achievements in all security indexes in 2018,” Major Al Shamsi added.
