New x-ray machines at NAIA to speed up Customs check, avoid OFW baggage opening

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and other passengers will soon breeze through the Customs check inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as new x-ray machines will soon be installed, announced Customs District Collector Vincent Philip Maronilla.

The new equipment aims to speed up the processing time, especially for OFWs and balikbayans, and target to help avoid NAIA baggage theft or pilferage.

“The OFWs would be our priority,” Maronilla said, adding that “I intend to provide special guidelines for the OFWs to provide them with the easiest procedure, within the bounds of the law.”

“This would be applicable not only for the OFWs but also to our kababayans as well because this is a privilege for Filipinos, whether they are already residing abroad or if they are OFWs,” Maronilla added.

“If a balikbayan box is for personal consumption, Customs would no longer inspect it,” he added. “Our priority is the prohibited goods.”
