Dubai tourist convicted of molesting Filipina in elevator

The Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday, December 17, convicted a 45-year-old Afghan man of molesting a Filipina in an elevator at a residential area, despite his not guilty plea.

He will be deported following the completion of his punishment, reported Gulf News.

The 25-year-old Filipina clerk accused him of sexual harassment following the incident that happened on July 25.

The man, who was on a visit visa, denied the Filipina’s claim that he slapped her intentionally inside the elevator.

Another local patch quoted the police corporal who interrogated the man, saying: “The accused said he lived in the same building with the victim. He told us he must have touched her by mistake because the place was small.”

The Filipina said the man told her to keep quiet after slapping her.

“I was waiting for the lift when the accused came from his flat and stood right behind me. I walked in and he suddenly slapped me.

“When I turned around and questioned him, he just raised his hand in a gesture to tell me to stay quiet.

“He was telling me something, but I could not understand,” the report quoted her as saying.

She added that she “pushed him off the lift when it reached the ground floor”.

Police said a CCTV footage of the building showed that the man was talking to the woman when they stepped out of the elevator.

The verdict can still be appealed within 15 days.
