26 died; 34 injured as “Urduja” hit Eastern Visayas

Typhoon “Urduja” leaves some families in mourning after as it hit the eastern part of Visayas over the weekend, killing 26 people, and injuring 34 others.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that most of these casualties were caused by landslides and severe flooding in Biliran, Leyte, and Eastern Samar. There are also 46 people reported missing.

Around 30,000 people are still stuck and affected by the widespread flood.  

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his sympathy to the families that lost their loved ones, and to those who lost their homes few days before Christmas.

Duterte is set to fly to Biliran on Monday to personally visit the typhoon victims, as well as to see the affected areas.

Malacañang and other government agencies assured the public especially those who are affected by the typhoon that relief and clearing operations will not halt despite the upcoming holidays.

Another brewing storm is about to hit the country after typhoon “Urduja” battered the Visayas region, reported weather bureau PAGASA.
