OFWs asked to avail of loan programs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is encouraging the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Western Visayas to avail of the enterprise development and loan program of the department to help them in putting up their business.

In partnership with the Landbank of the Philippines for the program, the program of OWWA aims to help OFWs and their families to set up viable business enterprises that will provide them with a steady income stream.

OWWA Director Albert Valenciano presented the said program among the more or less 175 OFWs and their families who took part in the three-day agri-business investment forum in this city which ended Wednesday.

Valenciano, in an interview, said that the program would help ease the capital needed by the OFWs for their business.

“There are those OFWs who really wanted to engage in business, however, sometimes they are short of the capital requirement so, they can loan to fulfill their needed capital,” he said.

According to Valenciano, the loan they could provide could reach to a maximum of PHP2 million.

Enterprise development, meanwhile, provides orientation and business appreciation to OFWs and their families willing to do business.

Valenciano said the training conducted for the participants would provide them knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship. There are also seminars conducted to help them create their business plan and prepare their requirements needed for their loans.

Valenciano also encouraged the OFWs to venture into coffee and cacao production due to the high demand for these commodities. (PNA)
