DOLE to lift OEC suspension order on Dec. 4

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has decided to finally lift the suspension of overseas employment certificate (OEC) for outgoing overseas Filipino workers (OFW).

“The OEC processing will automatically resume, but we would have to release the advisory for it tomorrow (Dec. 4),” Manila Bulletin quoted a text message sent to them by Labor undersecretary Dominador Say.

DOLE suspended the issuance of OECs for OFWs with visas issued after November 12 this year for 15 working days, November 13- December 1, to prevent what it claims existing corruption in the agency.

Earlier, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello revealed that some POEA employees earn as much as a quarter of a million or P250,000 by conniving with illegal recruiters for the issuance of OECs.

“To give you an idea how serious the problem is,” Bello said, “we received reports that 90 percent of direct hires are victims of illegal recruitment.”
