GDRFA may reconsider visa for expats with violations in UAE

Visa violation cases may be forgiven if a valid excuse is supplied, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

According to the Ministry of Labour and Immigration, working on a tourist visa and overstaying in the UAE will incur violators fines and deportation.

The GDRFA has approved around 40 percent of requests for the waiving or reduction of fines and around 80 percent of applications for exemptions due to humanitarian causes this year, Khaleej Times reported .

GDRFA Director Mohammed Al Marri said medical conditions and emergencies may be some of the valid reasons to consider an appeal involving visa violations.

“No one is above the law, but sometimes there are circumstances that happen out of people’s control that we must listen to and reconsider,” the report quoted him as saying.

The GDRFA is currently studying a humanitarian request by a sick Pakistani father whose seven children have expired visas with fines amounting to Dh350,000.

Colonel Khalaf Ahmad Al Ghaith, Assistant Director General at GDRFA, said humanitarian requests may be applied for online or at Al Aweer, Dubai.
