OFWs 3rd highest remitters in UAE

The UAE Central Bank announced the total value of remittances by foreign workers in the UAE reached Dh78 billion in the first half of 2017.

Remittances by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) accounted for 7.1 percent of the total remittances or Dh2.9 billion—earning the third spot as one of the most active nationalities in terms of remittances.

Indian workers earned the top position with remittances reaching Dh14.64 trillion or 35.9 percent of the total remittances recorded.

Pakistani workers came in second at 9.6 percent or Dh3.91 billion.

According to the bank’s data, Dh31.4 billion or 77 percent of the total of remittances of foreign workers in the UAE were transferred through money exchange companies while 23 percent or Dh9.4 billion were converted through banks.

Workers from Asian countries represent over 82 percent of the foreign workers registered in the country, accounting for about Dh23 trillion or 56.3 percent of the total value of overseas remittances in the first half of the year.
