Emirates requests to extend number of Dubai-Manila flights

The Emirates Airlines has expressed its interest of adding more direct flights from Dubai to Manila as a way of utilizing the tourism plans and goals of the country.

Emirates country head Satish Sethi said in a briefing in Makati City that they have already requested the government to let them have more flights to the country.

However, there has been no decision yet ever since the governments of the Philippines and UAE had their talk earlier this year.

“I was very much involved in those talks. We haven’t run in full capacity as Manila is constrained… but it is still not a closed door,” GMA News has quoted Sethi.

The Department of Transportation has been very flexible to Emirates and they have been very supportive, Sethi added.

“It’s a work in progress and we are hoping for the talks to happen again soon,” he said.

Currently, there are 18 Emirates flights weekly from Dubai to Manila.

The Department of Tourism targets to have 12 million visitors to the Philippines by 2022 and Sethi said it’s an opportunity for the airline to take advantage of this agenda of promoting tourism.

“I have seen the passengers grow. I have seen the demand grow. That’s on the rise. We are confident and we see a lot of optimism in the coming years so if and when we would have approvals to fly more, we would love to have more flights here in Manila,” he said.
