A total of 25 lawmakers backed an impeachment complaint filed against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. Serena has been accused of failing to disclose her real net worth, buying a luxury car with public funds, and pressuring judges to oppose the Duterte administration.

‘Return of Marcos wealth should be all or nothing’     

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez called on the Marcos family to return all of their alleged ill-gotten wealth. Alvarez said President Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement that the Marcos are willing to return their unexplained wealth is a “welcome development” but they should give “all, nothing less”. Alvarez said this could help the government solve financial deficits.

Lawyer Lorenzo Gadon secured endorsement from 25 lawyers for his impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, who allegedly committed violations against the Constitution, corruption, and betrayal of public trust. The complaint accused Sereno of non-disclosure of her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth, usage of public funds for lavish lifestyle, and violating the Constitution during the imposition of martial law in Mindanao.
