Firearms, ammunition found in NAIA passenger’s bag

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officials barred a Filipino from leaving the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 after authorities found a .45-caliber gun and a magazine inside his bag.

Silvestre Mendoza Roque, who was bound for Caticlan, said he just forgot to remove the firearms from his bag, but the officials may continue to file charges against him upon knowing that his license has already expired.

Roque could face criminal charges under Republic Act 10051 or the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act due to expired license and lack of permit to carry firearms.

Meanwhile, MIAA officials also found six .38-caliber bullets and 27 .45-caliber bullets inside another passenger’s balikbayan box.

The passenger was eventually allowed to leave the country after showing proper documents.
