Mark your calendar: More long weekends in the UAE

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will have more time to either spend days in nearby tourist destinations or simply relax at home as up to six long weekends are expected to be marked in the remaining months of 2017.

Gather your friends, refuel your wallets, and start planning for your mini-break.

Check out the list of upcoming holidays that could possibly prolong your weekends:

August 31 – Arafat Day

This year’s Arafat Day, the second day of the annual Haj, falls on a Thursday, which means two-day weekend will become three.

September 1-3 – Eid Al Adha

The moon-sighting committee in the UAE is yet to announce the official dates of Eid Al Adha, but local reports showed that it is likely to be observed on September 1 to September 3. This means your Sunday could be a vacant day for a spree.

September 21  – Al Hijri, Islamic New Year

This year’s Islamic New Year is expected to fall on September 21, a Thursday. That makes another long weekend, wherein you can set a Skype date with your family.

November 30 – Commemoration Day

The Commemoration Day, which will fall on a Thursday, could be a perfect time to set an online date with your families in the Philippines because they will also enjoy a break off from school and work because of Bonifacio Day.

November 30 – Prophet Mohammad’s Birthday

If Prophet Mohammad’s birthday, which is being observed on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awal, coincided with the Commemoration Day, it is possible that the weekend would be extended for another day.

December 2-3 – UAE National Day

During the celebration of the UAE National Day, one or two days are granted as public holidays. Since December 2 falls on a Saturday, weekend could be extended until the next day.
