DFA raises crisis alert levels in Middle East countries

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has raised different crisis alert levels in at least 21 countries due to security concerns.

In the update summary released by DFA, more countries in the Middle East and Africa were put under different alert level status than any other region.

DFA declared alert level 4, which requires mandatory repatriation and a total ban on OFW deployments in Iraq, Syria and South Sudan.

Authorities also imposed voluntary repatriation and total OFWs deployment ban in Yemen and Afghanistan, which have been tagged with alert level 3 due to political and security instability in the two countries.

Libya, Ukraine and Venezuela are on alert level 2 due to violent disturbances in some areas of these countries, while Congo, Egypt, Guinea, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh are on alert level 1.

Alert 2 means restriction phase and a ban on deployment of new hires, while alert level 1 means close monitoring of the situation in host countries.
