More Pinoys in UAE getting fond of mountain biking

Over 500 mountain biking enthusiasts recently gathered together for the fourth edition of the UAE MTB Jumeirah “Live to Race” held at District One Cycling Track, Meydan, Dubai and participated in by some 15 groups comprising a total of 218 race participants in five categories.

The route covered 27 kilometers mixed pave road and offroad; 12kms offroad with some obstructions, fire roads and sandpits; and 15 Kms of plain road including the cycling track loop of eight kms.

Participating groups were: Al Ain MTB from Al Ain; United Bikers from Abu Dhabi; Chaindrive MTB from Abu Dhabi; Band of Bikers from Dubai; DG Riders from Discovery Garden, Dubai; Metro Bikers from Al Nhada, Dubai; and Eskinita Bikers from Jaffliya, Dubai.

Other participating groups were the Supreme MTB from Satwa, Dubai; Republic MTB from Al Quoz, Dubai; DERA Bikers from Diera, Dubai; Tiwala Lang MTB from Dubai; JET’s Team from Dubai and Jumeirah Wings from Satwa, Dubai.

Categories were Men Open, Women Open , 40 years old and Below, 41 years old and Above and Jumeirah Ladies.

Filipino mountain biking groups were first formed around 2013. Nowadays, members hold regular activities where they meet in 2nd December Street in Satwa on Sundays.

On cooler days, the groups organize out-of-town activities during which they hire trucks for their bikes and head on to Al Ain, Hatta, Ras Al Khaimaih, even as far as Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet for some trail biking. Membership is free. (Jojo Dass)
