Dubai airport installing face scanners

A British company will be installing face scanners at the Dubai International Airport for faster clearance of arriving travelers.

British start-up ObjectTech has announced that the face scanners will be installed in biometric tunnels or walkways, where arriving passengers will pass going to the baggage claim area.

As the 3D scan of faces of people entering the airport works, built-in biometric machines check the person against his or her digital passport using face-recognition software.

The same company developed the digital passport for the system. The digital passport contains fingerprints, iris scans and face-recognition data from the electronic chip in physical passports.

The face scanners are part of Dubai’s goal to create the world’s first “gate-less border” where visitors can seamlessly enter the city’s airport and be registered into the country using a pre-approved and entirely digitised passport.
