The death toll from the series of floods and landslides in Bangladesh rose to 145 Wednesday with another 11 fatalities in neighboring India as rescue efforts continue.
News landslides on Wednesday killed one person in the district of Khagrachari and two in the coastal town of Cox’s Bazar, said Reaz Ahmed, head of the department of disaster management, according to a Reuters report.
A day earlier, 100 people in Rangamati, 36 in Chittagong and six in Bandarban were killed by landslides in the hilly districts of southeastern Bangladesh, according to Ahmed.
The death toll is expected to rise as many people went missing during the landslides and as rescuers search for them.
Across the border in India, floods killed at least 11 people in the states of Mizoram and Assam. Seven people are also missing after a landslide buried homes in Mizoram.
