Qataris in limbo as UAE adds transit ban

From not being allowed to enter the UAE and being ordered to leave the emirates in 14 days, Qataris in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are in limbo after authorities banned them from passing through local airports to change planes.

Qantas airlines was forced to stop carrying Qatar nationals on its flights to Dubai to comply with the government’s order. Consequently, Qatari passengers were prevented from boarding Qantas planes.

Qantas Airways Ltd International Chief Executive Gareth Evans said in Mexico, where he is attending an industry conference, the airline will offer affected passengers alternative flights.

Meanwhile, a crowd of agitated Qatar Airways customers were outside the airline’s office in Abu Dhabi trying to get a refund and rebooking. The customers complained that they were made to wait outside exposed to the heat.

Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc also cancelled flights via Doha to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt, which all closed their border with Qatar after cutting diplomatic relations with the Gulf neighbors on Monday.

“Royal Air Maroc apologises to its clients for these inconveniences caused by a situation outside of its control,” it said in a statement, according to Gulf News.
