France’s Iris Mittenaere wins Miss Universe 2016 held in Manila

Iris Mittenaere of France won the crown as the next Miss Universe to succeed the country’s own Pia Wurtzbach.

Mittenaere was announced as the Miss Universe 2016 during the coronation at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Monday.

During the question and answer portion, Mittenaere said she failed several times to represent her country, and that she learned to keep on trying and keep going.

“When you fail you have to try again and keep going,” she said.

According to the Miss Universe website, Iris, 23, was born in Lille, France and has been pursuing a degree in dentistry for the last 5 years.

“If she takes home the crown, she hopes to advocate for dental and oral hygiene,” reads her profile on the site.

Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar won second runner-up.

Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier won first runner-up.

The Philippines’ bet, Maxine Medina, made it to the Top 6 of the competition.
