Did You Know? UAE overtakes US as the top paying country for OFWs in 2016

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) takes over the United States’ spot as the top paying country for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in 2016,a latest report has shown.

In a report by WorkAbroad.ph’s 2016 Overseas Salary Report, it shows that OFWs with healthcare-related jobs are the top earners in UAE, having a monthly paycheck of P253,826 per month.

The US, which took the top spot last year, didn’t make it to the top 10 this year with demand for healthcare workers declining, Workabroad.ph Business Unit Manager Rhea Suiza was quoted to have said.

On an average, the report said, Filipino doctors working abroad receive monthly salary of P111,620, with pediatricians and OB gynecologists getting the highest pay.

The top 10 highest-paid job specializations for OFWs also include process design & control with an average monthly salary of P87,027; public relations and communications (P83,375); aviation/aircraft maintenance (P81,149) and law/legal services (P80,500), the report said.

Other jobs specializations on the list include education/training (P62,438 average monthly salary); quality control/assurance (P58,463); information technology-related (P57,639); engineering-related (P57,102); and architecture/ interior design (P55,660).

While jobs in the health care sector are highly paid, these only placed fourth in the list of most in-demand job specializations, said the news portal.

Engineering-related jobs are the most in-demand specializations for OFWs with 30,972 job postings on WorkAbroad.ph, followed by general work, such as housekeepers and drivers, with 22,367; and hospitality-related jobs with 13,681.

Job postings on Workabroad.ph are posted by Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA)-licensed recruitment agencies, the report said.

From January to September this year, a total of 117,696 OFW jobs were offered, of which 39 percent have been deployed to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia reportedly ranked first in WorkAbroad.ph’s list of top 10 countries of deployment with most jobs for OFWs, followed by Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Oman, United States, New Zealand, Brunei and Australia were also included in the list.

Workabroad.ph is a part of SEEK Asia, an online employment marketplace that covers Asian countries namely Hong Kong Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, registering 90 percent total overseas employers.

As the Philippines continues to laud its citizens who seek greener pastures abroad, however, programs that will adequately protect overseas Filipino workers remain a distant dream.
