RTA bans cycling at Dubai Water Canal boardwalk

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has banned cycling, roller-skating and skateboarding at the Dubai Water Canal Boardwalk.

RTA has also halted pets, making campfire or barbecuing near the boardwalk, as part of a set of instructions to monitor the safety and security of canal visitors, reported Gulf News.

Jumping on the side rails and dumping of waste will also attract legal action, the report said.

Nabeel Mohammad Saleh, Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, reportedly called on visitors to the canal to follow the instructions that are posted on the boards near the boardwalk.

“One of our priorities is to maintain the safety of visitors of the Dubai Water Canal. The canal is a landmark that contributes to promoting the economy, investment and tourism in Dubai and maintaining environmental safety in Dubai Creek, which is the lifeline of commercial and maritime business of the city,” Saleh was quoted as saying.

Smoking shisha, dressing in skimpy cloths and spitting on the boardwalk are also prohibited, GN reported.

Saleh also urged visitors not to leave their children under the age of 12 unattended for their own safety.
