SWS Report: 36% Filipinos believe their lives have improved

More Filipinos believe their quality of lives have improved in the past 12 months, rising to a new record-high in the third quarter survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

About 36 percent of Filipinos claimed their lives have improved in the past 12 months while 17 percent said they worsened, Manila Bulletin quoted the nationwide survey conducted last September 24–27 among 1,200 respondents.

This translates to a new record-high net rating of “very high” +19, the report said, adding that the latest rating is higher than the net +9 recorded in the second quarter survey in June, but remained under the “very high” category.

SWS reportedly noted that this is only the ninth time that it has been positive since the survey about Filipinos’ quality of life began in April 1983.

The survey also reportedly found 46 percent of Filipinos expressed optimism that their quality of life would get better in the next 12 months, while 3 percent expected that it would deteriorate.

This brings to “very high” +43 (percentage of optimistic minus percentage of pessimistic) the net optimism of Filipinos about their quality of lives, said the news portal.

SWS said this is lower than the net +46 (49 percent optimistic, 3 percent pessimistic), but still “very high,” recorded in the June survey.

The survey also reportedly found that 53 percent of Filipinos expressed optimism that the Philippine economy will improve in the next 12 months, while nine percent felt it would deteriorate.

This is equivalent to a net +44 net optimism about the economy, which is lower than the record-high +56 (60 percent optimism, 4 percent pessimism) three months ago.

Net optimism about the economy refers to expectations about the Philippine economy in general, and is different from net personal optimism
