‘Marce’ exits PAR, maintains strength

As Tropical storm Marce, exits the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday and traverses the West Philippine Sea, the weather bureau PAGASA has lifted all tropical cyclone warning signals.

In its weather bulletin issued at 5 a.m. Saturday, PAGASA located ‘Marce’s’ center at 125 km. northwest of Coron, Palawan as of 4 a.m., packing maximum winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph, according to a Northbound Philippines report.

It forecast ‘Marce’ to move northwest at 15 kph to reach 335 km. west of Iba, Zambales by Sunday morning and 680 km. west-northwest of Iba by Monday morning.

The bureau, however, said that rainfall would be moderate to heavy within the 300-km. diameter of the tropical storm, warning that sea travel is still risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon, the seaboards of Central Luzon, and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon.

Tropical Storm “Marce” has passed through the northern tip of Negros Occidental and spared the province from damage, Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. has said earlier.

Knee-deep floodwaters swamped parts of Baler town in Aurora province as heavy rains from Storm Marce continued to pour until Saturday morning, reported GMA News.

Farmlands, roads, houses, and some commercial establishments were flooded, and power supply has been cut off more than five times in the past three days.

Local authorities have been monitoring landslide-prone areas, and as of Saturday morning, no incident has been reported, Balbero said.

In its 11 a.m. weather update, sate weather bureau PAGASA said Marce has intensified slightly as it continued to cross the West Philippines Sea, said the news portal.
