JUST IN: Paolo Ballesteros is Tokyo’s best actor

Dabarkads Paolo Ballesteros adds another feather in his cap as he was hailed best actor in this year’s Tokyo Film Festival for the film “Die Beautiful”, which also bagged the Audience Award.

A glamorous life deserves a fabulous death

Ballesteros plays a transgender woman whose dying wish is to be dressed as Katy Perry for her funeral.

During movie’s premiere of the Tokyo International Film Festival last week, Ballesteros took to the red carpet as another Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie.

Ballesteros, who is known for his makeup transformations on social media, posted a photo of him looking like the American actress on the red carpet.

Meanwhile, the award-winning director of the film Jun Lana took to Facebook this morning to announce the awards bagged by his film. He said, “Die Beautiful just won the Audience Award here at #tiffjp! We love you, Tokyo!” In another post, the director was elated to announce Ballesteros’ victory, saying, “Paolo Ballesteros is Tokyo’s Best Actor!”

It is Lana’s third time in Tokyo, after “Bwakaw” in 2012 and “Barber’s Tales in 2013. “I want to reconnect with the audiences we’ve built in the past,” he was quoted to have said in a media interview.

The movie is among the 16 films competing at the prestigious film festival that was selected from among 1,502 titles from 98 countries and regions.

According to the film’s Facebook page , the movie is about the “fierce battle” between the lead character’s “conservative Filipino-Chinese family and her well-meaning drag queen friends.”

Its tagline, according to its poster, is “A glamorous life deserves a fabulous death.”
