The first and second days of Shawwal are expected to fall on Wednesday and Thursday, July 6 and 7. It will depend, however, on the sighting of the Crescent moon, following which a formal announcement will be made.

Earlier this week, it was announced that public-sector workers will have nine-day holidays from July 1 to July 9 – including two weekends.

The announcement was pursuant to the provisions of Article 74 of Federal Law No. 08 for the year 1980, which determines the holiday of the private sector as the first and second day of the month of Shawwal.
