Duterte to impose nationwide liquor ban, curfew for minors

DAVAO CITY: The days of teenagers gallivanting on the streets past midnight will be gone as soon as President-elect Rodrigo Duterte assumes his office on June 30.

The incoming president said he will make sure that the curfew for minors will be imposed nationwide as well as the liquor ban from 1am to 6am for everyone’s safety.

“The curfew is meant to protect the children from dangers and not to harm them,” Duterte said during Monday’sflag-raising ceremony at the Davao City Hall, his last as city mayor, reported the Philippine Star.

Duterte said the parents of the minors who will violate the curfew law will be held accountable on grounds of abandonment and shrugged off concerns the move is against human rights.
Curfew for minors is strictly followed in Davao City where Duterte was mayor for over two decades.
