Facebook plans a livestream of Duterte inauguration

MANILA – Apparently owing to his being the most talked about presidential candidate on Facebook, a representative of the social media site has met with President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s communications staff to explore the possibility of a livestream coverage of his inauguration on June 30.

Incoming Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has met with Elizabeth Hernandez, head of Facebook Public Policy for Asia Pacific, to discuss the matter, according to an ABS-CBN news report

Incoming Presidential Spokesperson Ernie Abella, Paul Dominguez, media executive and blogger Nic Gabunada, and business development director John Carlo Tria also joined the meeting, stated the report.

Apart from the inauguration, Facebook is also keen on helping the new administration use its site for the governance part of the 16th Philippine president, noting the high level of engagement among social media users in last month’s elections, the report said.

Duterte garnered 64 percent of conversations related to the elections from Nov.20, 2015 to April 5, 2016, according to the report.
