Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee further explained her reason why she decided to come out as bisexual. Michelle said that she has received a lot of support after her revelation.
“It just felt like it wasn’t something that I needed to do to help my journey,” Michelle said in a Vogue Philippines interview.
“But to come out at that time, I felt, would have distracted my main mission because there’s so much about myself that I can show to the universe and not use my sexuality just to define me,” she said.
Michelle said that she does not want to use her coming out story as a clout or marketing tool when she joined this year’s pageant.
“I just felt like it wasn’t the right time, or it wasn’t the right moment. To just use it for marketing, clout, or attention, it didn’t feel right,” she added.
Michelle said that coming out should be based on an individual’s own terms.
“Because that’s how anyone in the LGBTQIA+ community should be allowed to do. They should have the right to determine when they feel like they’re ready,” she said.
