President Bongbong Marcos is still optimistic that the price of rice per kilo will still go down to P20 per kilo. This was one of the campaign promises of Marcos during the 2022 elections.
“Makikita ninyo ‘yung bigas, ang aking pangarap na sinabi na bago ako umupo na sana maipababa natin ang presyo ng bigas ng P20, hindi pa tayo umaabot doon… dahan-dahan palapit, nasa P25 na tayo, kaunti na lang maibababa natin ‘yan,” Marcos said in his speech.
Marcos led the launch of the Kadiwa Ng Pangulo in Pili, Camarines Sur. A Kadiwa store sells rice for P25 per kilo.
In a GMA News report, the price of well-milled rice in the markets in Metro Manila ranges from P40 to P46 per kilo.
Marcos who is also serving as Agriculture Secretary highlights the need to bring technology to agriculture.
“Iniiwasan natin yung pag-import, kaya pinapatibay natin yung production side. Basta’t tumaas ang ating production, bababa ang production costs, bababa ang presyo ng bilihin,” Marcos said.
“Kakatapos lang namin gumawa ng nationwide plan para sa fisheries para hindi na tayo mag-import at para bumaba ang presyo,” he added.
