ALERT: UAE sends notice for iPhone users on apps using cameras, microphones

iPhone users in the UAE are reminded to keep track of the apps that they install and use following a new feature in the iOS14 that monitors both camera and microphone usage.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority issued an alert for iPhone users to remain vigilant and to always check if the apps that they use control either their camera or microphone without their consent.

“If you notice that the sign appears even though the app does not need it, it means that the app is trying to access the camera or microphone without your knowledge,” said the alert from TRA.

iOS14 shows a green dot if the said app is using your camera, while it will show a yellow-orange dot if the app is using your microphone.

TRA recommends iPhone users to either contact the app developer regarding the issue for a clarification or to remove the app and report it at the App Store.
