400 million+ phone numbers linked to Facebook accounts exposed online

Over 400 million Facebook users who’s phone numbers were linked to their accounts were exposed in the latest privacy lapse of the social media giant.

The exposed server contained more than 419 million records over several database of users from different countries which includes 133 million records on U.S.-based Facebook users, 18 million records of users in the U.K., and another with more than 50 million records on users in Vietnam, according to a report from TechCrunch.

The server was not password protected, and so anyone can find and access the database wherein the user’s Facebook ID and the phone number linked to the account. The gender listed by some accounts as well as their locations were also leaked.

“The dataset has been taken down and we have seen no evidence that Facebook accounts were compromised,” said a spokesperson of Facebook, as per Agence France-Presse.
