Facebook prohibits app pre-installation on Huawei phones

Social media giant Facebook will no longer allow the pre-installation of the application on new Huawei phones in response to Washington’s move to blacklist the Chinese tech company.

In a statement, Facebook said it will be “suspending the provision of software to Huawei that allowed its devices to come pre-installed with apps including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.”

Facebook however clarified that Huawei users who already have the app will not be affected by this new directive.

Huawei is the second largest smartphone brand in the world. United States officials have been very cautious about the Chinese brand, accusing Huawei of spying.

“We are reviewing the Commerce Department’s final rule and the more recently issued temporary general license and taking steps to ensure compliance,” Facebook said in a statement.
