FEU’s Lycha Ebon marks triumphant return, sweeps UE at opening game of UAAP Season 82

UAAP 82nd season saw Far Eastern University (FEU) sweep University of the East on their volleyball match up as sophomore Lycha Ebon returns to the court after missing majority of the previous season due to a knee injury.
FEU started strong with a 25-9 score, followed by a tight 25-20 and 25-17 as UE fought back harder during the second and third games.
Reports from ABS-CBN Sports state that as Ebon set the tone for the entire match, it was FEU Lady Tams Team captain Gel Cayuna whose presence was felt the entire match, rightfully earning honors as the Player of the Game with 9 points on her hands, coupled with 18 excellent sets in the court.
“Thankful ako sa mga players ko, kasi ang instruction ko sa kanila, umpisahan natin ng maganda, tatapusin natin ng maganda,” said FEU coach George Pascua, in a report from ABS-CBN.
Cayuna furthered that Pascua’s strategies proved efficient following their win as they followed his plan: “Nasa isip namin na gawin namin ‘yung game plan na sinasabi ni coach, at magtiwala lang sa sarili.”
“Sinasabi ni Ate (Gel) na sundin lang kung anong instruction ni coach,” added Ebon, who herself contributed 9 points for her first game since March 2019.
Jeanette Villareal had 11 points, and Ivana Agudo added 10 markers for FEU, which got 20 free points from UE’s errors. They also registered a whopping 14 aces in the game, with Cayuna accounting for five of them.
Mendrez, UE’s team captain, had 13 points to lead the Lady Warriors. No other UE player reached double-digits, with Lana and Gabarda each scoring 8 markers.
