SEA Games medalists to receive cash incentives

Christmas will indeed be merrier for Filipino athletes who won medals in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The Filipino SEA Games medalists will receive over P100 million based on the Expanded National Athletes Incentives Act or Republic Act 10699, as per a report by Philippine Star.

Under this law, a SEA Games gold is equivalent to P300,000; a silver medal is P150,000; and a bronze medal will receive P60,000.

This is aside from the amount promised by Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

He vowed to also match the amount that the Philippine government will hand out to gold medalists.

This would mean those who got gold medals will again received P300,000 as incentive.

In another report by Spin.ph, President Rodrigo Duterte has announced additional cash incentives to the medalists.

He said an additional P250,000 will be given for gold, P150,000 for silver, and P100,000 for bronze medalists.

The awarding will be held on Dec. 18 when the Philippine team will pay a courtesy call to Malacañang.

This development came on Tuesday after the Philippines gained the overall championship in the SEA Games after 14 years.
