After capturing the silver medal in their tennis match on Saturday in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Filipino tennis player Ruben Gonzales bagged something more precious than gold: a wedding proposal to his longtime girlfriend.
Gonzales popped the question to his girlfriend Michele Bumgarner shortly after he received his silver medal for the men’s doubles round.
Bumgarner, a race car driver, said she was surprised with her boyfriend’s wedding proposal.
“Still in such a shock. Can’t believe I’m marrying my best friend and the absolute love of my life,” she said on her Instagram account.
Bumgarner accepted the proposal by sealing Gonzales’ proposal with a kiss.
Gonzales competed in the men’s doubles finals against fellow Filipinos Francis Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon. He teamed up with tennister Treat Huey.
